UPDATE FROM MALAYSIAN DOGS BETTER - MORE SELAYANG POUND NEWS

Call Ernie the person in charge of the Selayang Pound. She is responsible for starving and torturing the dogs. Read MDDB's update below and take action!!! Don't let monstrous people get away with cruelty. Her phone number is listed below. CALL!! EMAIL!!

Update below taken from http://malaysiandogsdeservebetter.blogspot.com/2010/02/ernie-013-6064446.html

ERNIE - +6013-6064446

We had an incredulous tele-conversation with Ernie who is in charge of the pound. She admitted that she was in-charge of the pound but denied that she had ill-treated the dogs there. We told her that not giving them food and water was ill-treatment and she claimed the dogs were fed rice. Which we do not believe.
She also said one of the pictures we uploaded on Mondayof a dog - which apparently died of starvation - was also not her doing. She said the dog had been fed but it had refused to eat and hence starved. She said it must have refused to eat because it missed its family very much.
Apparently she had removed the dog from the owner's house because it did not have a license. We asked her if she had compounded the owner first before seizing the dog
.

Ernie: Kompounnya Rm1,000 manalah dia orang boleh bayar?
(They compound is RM1,000 - how can they afford to pay).

We: If they loved their dog - they would pay the amount and do the necessary. So, did you not compound them at all?

Ernie: Mengikut undang-undang kami boleh kompaun atau sita terus. Saya tak bagi kompoun, saya sita terus.
(Under the by-laws we can either compound the owners or immediately seize the dog. I didn't give them a compound - I seized the dog on the spot.)

She also admitted that she goes on dog-catching rounds and that it was true she had even gone as far as entering the toilet of a coffee shop to seize a dog purportedly owned by the shopkeeper.

THIS IS SHOCKING! This woman does not compound owners but seizes their pets on the spot and throws them into the pound.

Since, she told us that she did not think they could not afford to pay the penalty - allegations that she prevented dog owners from seeing their dogs must be true.

MPS MUST DO THE RIGHT THING BY REMOVING THIS CRUEL WOMAN FROM THE POUND.

PLEASE lobby for that change.

THESE ARE THE PEOPLE TO CONTACT OR WRITE TO.

Those who mcan, please also lodge police reports.

losing my sanity

yesterday was an emotional rollercoaster for me.. in the morning, gia passed away.. and that night, madeleine was adopted!! so last night i was a blubbering sack of tears and mood swings.. didn't help that i'm like pmsing as well. so this was me last night:

"YAY!! Maddie's got a family!!"
"Sob, sniffle.. But little Gia is dead.." *CURL UP INTO FETAL POSITION IN BED AND SOB*
"I miss Maddie so much already!" *CRY*
"Oh poor Molly will think Maddie abandoned her.. Molly will be lonely!" *MORE TEARS*
"The house is so empty without Maddie.. I miss her cutesy face.." *AND YET MORE TEARS*
"Yay!! The people that adopted Maddie are so nice!!" *SMILE*
"How can i celebrate for Maddie, when Gia is dead..." *CRY AGAIN*

i'm exhausted today. i have no emotions left. i think that's good. i need a little break from all that.

UPDATE ON THE SELAYANG POUND SCANDAL

Herewith more sad pictures of what’s happening at the Selayang pound. Note the picture of the dead dog – it is wearing a collar and therefore is someone’s pet. We were told that the Selayang local council officer in charge of the pound Ernie - contact number: 0136064446 does not even let owners look for their dogs at the pound. She does not allow anyone to enter and this was clearly indicated when even the SPCA officials that included a vet, was not allowed entry into the pound yesterday. There is also a picture of the spot where a dogs was said to have been cremated. Our question is – when the other carcasses are packed in garbage bags – why was this one burnt? WAS IT REALLY DEAD? We spent more than two hours speaking with MPS councilor Gunaraj, who later conformed after his visit to the pound that the dogs were indeed in a dire state. Other councilors narrated to us how every time the issue of dogs was brought-up at the full board meetings – the council people would shrug it off and even crack jokes. Dear people, please do the right thing by voicing your protest. Be heard. See the pictures for yourselves people – this was taken yesterday and the dogs are eating the kibbles that we sent them. The place is also tick infested. Please visit the pound and demand to be let in – adopt a pup or dog if you can and if Ernie prevents you from doing so, please let us know. You can also bring food for these poor dogs – and if anyone can prepare some boiled chicken parts for them – it would be heaven sent. Anyone who wants to lodge a police report against the council please write to us.

UPDATE FROM MALAYSIAN DOGS DESERVE BETTER - SELAYANG POUND SCANDAL CONTINUES

Taken from http://malaysiandogsdeservebetter.blogspot.com/2010/02/selayang-scandal.html

The SELAYANG SCANDAL

MDDB met Selayang councillor Gunaraj George today and handed food, bowls, pails, brooms and bleech to be brought to the Selayang pound. The bowls were sponsored by Animalcare whilst the rest came from MDDB. He was met by Animalcare and MDDB volunteer Mandy at the pound and both were horrified with what they saw.
Apparently, the pound had been spruced up after the expose but yet it was really shocking. There was a big pail of water in one of the cells and big chunks of plain white rice was thrown in one or two cells as well. This must have been a part of the spurce-up. According to Gunaraj, he was shocked to note the the dogs were only fed plain white rice.
The place was infested with ticks and according to Mandy some of the dogs must have died of tick fever. We also heard that the pound did not allow SPCA officials into its premises this morning and this is unacceptable.
They had also refused to accept the food brought to the pound by the SPCA. It shows the arrogance of the Selayang Municipal Council - why did they refuse SPCA's food when they only had white rice to feed the dogs?
Anyone claiming that the MPS is feeding the pound dogs are lying either to cover their posteriors or because they have personal agendas.
The caretaker told Mandy that there were no provision for food for the pound dogs and he sourced for food on his own initiative because he felt sorry for the dogs. Most of the time the dogs went hungry. There were also no containers and he had used some old pails to give them water. The pails are big - can the puppies reach the top for a drink?
Why didn't they allow the SPCA people in - what do they have to hide? It has also been brought to our attention that the dogs were systematically being starved to death and there may be truth in this. Gunaraj says the dogs in the Selayang pound appeared to be very weak. He and several other councillors have promised to work together with MDDB and other NGOs to put a stop to this cruelty. One of the persons responsible for this cruelty is an MPS employee named Ernie - contact number: 0136064446. She is the officer in charge of the pound. According to a very reliable sources she prevents even owners from going in to see their dogs. This woman apparently has a deep hatred for dogs that she enjoys inflicting pain on them. Call her and make it clear to this cruel civil servant, whose salary comes from our tax ringgit, that we will not tolerate her conduct.
Continue to SMS the councillors and the others as the MPS would be having ist full board meeting tomorrow morning.
More pictures and update to follow soon.

UPDATE FROM MALAYSIAN DOGS DESERVE BETTER - SELAYANG DOG POUND

More dog pound cruelty uncovered by MDDB in Malaysia.. When will this end? First the Setapak Pound, then the Klang Pound that Maddie came from, and now the pound in Selayang. What is wrong with these people? Some malaysians seems to lack even the tiniest inkling of compassion and empathy for other living beings. I wonder when these people became so damn stupid and why? Let's hope these cruel people eventually go extinct. They're just a waste of space and oxygen. Spread the word people!! Put these posts on your blog and show the world how disgusting Malaysia is.

Check out the update taken from http://malaysiandogsdeservebetter.blogspot.com/2010/02/mayhem-in-selayang.html

MAYHEM IN SELAYANG

Dying puppy being rushed to the SPCA by the activist
An emaciated dog hoping for some food and water
A dead and bloated dog in one of the enclosures

If the Klang pound was bad, the Selayang Municipal Council pound is mayhem at its worst. These pictures were taken by an animal activist who has been trying to bring change to the Selayang pound for years. The pictures were taken today morning (21-02-2010). According to her there were many dead dogs lying around and some had been packed in black garbage bags and placed at the entrance of the pound. There were a lot of blood on the floor and according to the caretaker the dogs have not been given food and water at all because ‘they did not have containers.’ He said the Department of Veterinary Services people have not been to the pound for about a month. The dogs are dropping dead of starvation and dehydration. The place is a nightmare and even some of the councilors have voiced their concern to us. So, people we have to go back to doing what we did for the Klang Pound which had brought about some change. Please forward this to as many people as possible and write to the people whose e-mails we have included in this post. Please also sms the local councilors to tell them that we will not tolerate such cruelty. According to the activist erica chum - she has been highlighting the deplorable state of the pound for the last three years but no one had taken the initiative to do anything about it. She says she has seen many horrific things during her almost weekly visits to the pound - such a dog with one eye popping out once. She also alleges that dead puppies were simply washed into the drains. According to Erica, the vet who's supposed to go the the pound does not do so anymore because of the new location at Rawang. So, she says the dogs are left to die of starvation. These are serious allegations. However, we are sure that people , who had not bothered to do anything so far, will all rush to the pound soon. Whatever, it is - let justice be done for the voiceless.

UPDATE FROM MALAYSIAN DOGS DESERVE BETTER ABOUT THE DOG THAT WAS BURNED WITH BOILING OIL

hi all.. in the midst of all the bad news, some good news about Lester, the dog that was burned at the PJ OLD TOWN Market. check out his progress. Good job Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better for always taking care of dogs in need!! Check him out below.. Don't forget to go to MDDB's blog and donate if you can!!

Taken from http://malaysiandogsdeservebetter.blogspot.com/2010/02/lester.html

Gaping wound exposing flesh and bone
70 percent of the scald marks have healed and the skin appears to be ok
Relieved and thankful that he was given a chance to live instead of being euthanised.
Thank you for from the bottom of my doggie heart.
I promise to get better real soon.

Smilling for the camera.
This part of the burn may need a skin graft.

Remember the fellow who was scalded by hot oil. Well, we have named him Lester and would like to report that he is recovering from his burns very fast. He looks very happy as well and is wagging his tail as if thanking those who rescued him as well as those taking care of him at the clinic. His burns are healed at least 70 % but we do not know if he requires a skin graft or something to that effect. He also has a deep cut in the leg which is exposing flesh and bone and the vets are treating that as well. This is why we do not put animals to sleep. They are very resilient and always decide if they want to get better or not. In Lester's case he had indicated that he wanted to survive his ordeal and move on with life - that's why he had gone looking for his feeder after being injured. we are glad we did not allow ourselves to be pressured into killing him, as suggested by many, at a time when he needed compassion, love and medical care the most.

Pouring salt on my own wounds. Excellent.

Just went to the clinic to settle the bill. Then I asked to see her body. Why? Because I'm a fucking idiot that's why... Ended up having to rush out of the clinic in tears and crying all the way home. What the hell made me think that petting her corpse and saying goodbye would help? You'd think that after all these years of fostering I'd learn not to be such a dumbass.

Goodbye Gia

Its monday afternoon now. I brought my camera to work today thinking that i could visit Gia at the clinic and take some photos of her before heading home. Well that's not going to happen. The only thing i'll be doing at the clinic today is settling the bill. Gia is dead. She passed away this morning. Dr L called me a couple of hours of ago and told me. When my mobile rang and i saw it was the clinic calling, i had this stupid hope that they were going to tell me that she was awake and alert and asking for food. Well that was hopeful and stupid. Why would she have woken up today when she hasn't shown any sign of waking up since saturday?

I only have the photos i took of her friday night. She was facing away from me. I didn't want to disturb her slumber so I have no photos of her little face. If i knew she wasn't going to make it anyway I would've tried harder to get good shots. Sorry Gia. I suck.

I guess it was just too little too late for this poor baby. She was too weak. Could we have done better? Is there anything I should have done that first night I brought her home? What did I miss? Maybe I should've tried to get more food and more water into her. She was only 400 grams and 2 months old.. Luna and Rajah are also 2 months old, and they weigh almost 1 kilogram each. Argh i can't think about this right now. I will have two more fosters by the end of the day. The last two of the Sri Murni Ferals.. Stubbs and Runty.

general whining and moodiness

It's saturday night now. Little gia has been staying at the vets for 2 days already. There is no improvement in her condition whatsoever. When I saw her yesterday she was unresponsive and motionless again. I called the clinic today for an update and they said there's still no change. She woke up once but couldn't even stand. Dr L says we'll have to take it one day at a time and see if gia survives tomorrow. Dammit I was so sure that once she was on the IV drip thingy that she would get better. It was always like that with other sick kitties and pups before...

Also Maddie's bald butt isn't improving again. she's had treatment for flea allergy dermatitis but her fur didn't grow back. Now she's just finished a two week course of antifungal tablets and several medicated baths but her fur still isn't growing back. Her butt and thighs are all patchy. I really need her to be in perfect condition to meet potential adopters. What now? Back to the vet...

Thank you Molly & Conan's kind sponsor!

I've just received sponsorship moolah for the second time from a kind expatriate lady that lives in Malaysia and runs her own full-fledged animal sanctuary. What would molly, conan, and i do without her? We'd be eating instant noodles and no one would have any toys or treats that's for sure!! Thank you so much N for helping us again and always keeping Molly & Conan in your thoughts.

New Foster Kitten - Gia

hey all.. i have a new addition to my foster family.. a little siamese mix kitten i've decided to call Gia. She's about 2 months old. Seems like a sweetie. Beautiful with a cream colored coat, classic seal point markings and light blue eyes. She'll be highly adoptable.. if she survives.. :(

*HUGE, LOUD, LONG SIGH*

I found her yesterday when i was driving home from work. She was curled up in a little ball on the curb outside a roadside food stall frequented by indonesian construction workers. They had been trying to feed her fried fish but she was too sick to eat and they were happy when i picked her up and took her with me. her little body in my hands felt like a skeleton just covered in skin. her eyes were glued shut with discharge. her spindly legs and tail coated in diarrhea. she smelled really awful and was covered in fleas.

It was too late to go to the vet.. It's still chinese new year for another 10 days or so.. Some clinics won't open at all until next monday and others are only open half-day. So at 7pm yesterday, i had nowhere to bring her but home. I set her up in the downstairs bathroom because I don't actually have room for anymore fosters right now. Good thing I have a few extra litter boxes though!! The poor little thing constantly dripped watery feces.. I put hills prescription a/d in a dish for her and she licked at it but couldn't really eat. I managed to get about 10ml of water with glucose into her with a syringe and about 4 syringes full of a/d. she spat out the hi-vite drops.

I kept checking to see if she was breathing. Sometimes she seemed unconscious and was completely unresponsive. I figured she'd probably be dead when i woke up in the morning but she wasn't!! i felt such relief when i heard her meow through the bathroom door this morning!! anyway we were at the vet the second they opened this morning and she'll be staying there for a couple of days. Dr. J says Gia looks really really really bad but let's hope for the best ok? She's on an IV drip now and I hope that when i go see her after work, she'll be a little reenergized..

As an attempt at optimism, I'll include her name in the sidebar on the right under the "For Adoption Now" section.. I haven't taken any pictures of her yet. She looks like a corpse.
